Position: CNC Machinist
Reports To: Director of Operations
Status: Hourly, Non-Exempt
Wage Range: $20.50 - $35.00 / Hour
BASIC WORKER FUNCTION:
Set up and run machines to make precise metal parts. Do complex, high-priority jobs quickly and accurately with little supervision.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF
TASKS:
• Set up and adjust machines using the correct tools and settings.
• Choose the right speeds and feeds for each job.
• Install and adjust holding devices and cutting tools.
• Look for ways to make jobs run faster and smoother.
• Check first parts with tools like micrometers and calipers.
• Replace worn tools and make machine adjustments as needed.
• Train and guide other machinists and operators.
• Check and adjust machine controls.
• Find machine problems and report repair needs to the supervisor.
• Run test or sample parts when needed.
• Inspect parts to make sure they match blueprints and specs.
• Help the supervisor order needed supplies.
• Keep required records and paperwork.
• Follow all safety rules and keep the area safe and clean.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• Able to set up and run all main machines in the shop.
• Able to create and edit machine programs.
• Make high-quality parts with very few mistakes.
• Able to switch between different jobs and machines.
• Strong understanding of machining methods and tools.
• Able to train and lead other shop workers.
• Willing to learn new machining technology.
• Good knowledge of different metals and how they cut.
• Able to read blueprints and job instructions.
• Skilled in using measuring tools for close tolerances.
• Able to grind and sharpen cutting tools.
QUALIFICATIONS
• High school diploma or GED; machining training is a plus.
• At least 5 years of machinist experience, preferably with CNC machines.
• Able to read blueprints and machining specs.
• Experience programming and running CNC machines preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
• Stand, walk, bend, and reach often.
• Lift up to 50 pounds at times.
• Use hands for detailed and repeated work.
• Have clear vision to read prints and measure parts.
• Wear required safety gear (PPE) when needed.
