Position SummaryUnder general supervision, the Manual Lathe Machinist sets up and operates manual lathes, mills, and other precision machining equipment to manufacture and repair metal components used in turbine and compressor systems. This role requires a high level of accuracy, strong blueprint reading skills, and the ability to maintain tight tolerances.
Primary ResponsibilitiesSet up and operate manual lathes to produce precision components
Perform milling, drilling, tapping, and grinding using manual machines
Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and GD&T requirements
Select proper tooling, speeds, and feeds based on material and specifications
Measure and inspect parts using precision instruments (micrometers, calipers, gauges)
Maintain tight tolerances and ensure high-quality finished products
Make machine adjustments, offsets, and perform minor maintenance
Document inspection results and maintain quality records
Support assembly teams working on compressors and turbine packages
Assist with hydrostatic testing and test setup as needed
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
Follow all EHS and safety regulations
Required Skills & ExperienceHigh School Diploma or GED OR 10+ years of machining experience
5+ years of manual lathe machining experience (REQUIRED)
Strong experience with manual mills, drills, and grinders
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and GD&T
Experience holding tight tolerances in precision machining
Proficiency with precision measuring tools
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
Technical SkillsManual machining (lathe, mill, grinding)
Blueprint reading and GD&T interpretation
Tool selection (cutting tools, feeds, speeds)
Precision measurement and inspection
Basic machine maintenance and adjustments
