Role Summary
* In this role, the Technical Writer develops comprehensive, standards-compliant documentation for Ground-Based Training System designs. Responsibilities include analyzing configuration items, collaborating with subject-matter experts, and producing manuals, specifications, and process documentation that meet Department of Defense Data Item Description (DID) requirements. The role translates complex technical information into user-friendly content, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and compliance, while managing multiple assignments and supporting engineers in refining content and visuals. Education & Job Requirements
* Must holda Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field of study.
* Must have 3 or more years of experience as an effective technical writer.
* Must communicatefluently in verbal and written English.
* Must demonstratethe ability to quickly learn and understand complex subject matter.
* Must collaboratewith engineers to improve understanding, refine content, and create visuals and diagrams.
* Must managemultiple technical writing assignments simultaneously. Preferred Skills
* Preferprofessionalcertification (e.g., Society for Technical Communication).
* Prefercompletion of Defense Acquisition University courses.
* Preferproficiency in Microsoft Word (2019/O365), including styles, templates, cross-referencing, index tags, and complex graphics (e.g., drawing canvases, layout options). Job Duties/Functions
* Examine configuration items by visual and physical inspection, interpret specifications/manuals, software units, mechanical drawings, wire-lists, and electrical schematics to gain understanding and insights.
* Gather supporting information from subject-matter experts and develop, organize, and write DID-compliant manuals, technical specifications, and process documentation.
* Develop comprehensive documentation that meets organizational standards and Department of Defense Data Item Description (DID) requirements as they relate to Ground-Based Training System Designs.
* Documentation includes but is not limited to Interface Design Description (IDD), System/Subsystem Design Description (SSDD), Math Model, Product Design, Training System Manuals, Operation and Maintenance Manuals, and Test Procedures.
* Gain a deep understanding of products and translate complex information into comprehensive, accurate, and standards-compliant content.
* Write user-friendly content that meets the needs of the target audience, turning insights into language for user success.
